Dear Customers,

Thanksgiving already and time for a new price list and website update! Well that was the plan anyway, but we ran a tad late.

The biodegradable pots made a huge improvement in transplanting the marginal plants and this year all marginal plants will come in the new pots. They are slightly larger than the net pots and that combined with better root growth provide larger, healthier plants for shipping. Being 100% organic OMRI listed is also a bonus point for sales in what is after all a green industry.

The roots grow through the entire surface of the pots, resulting in air pruning that increases root tip numbers and eliminates the problem of having only a few roots circle the bottom of the pot. They are fully biodegradable, so there is no need to break the bottom out of the pot when you transplant them, saving time and eliminating transplant shock. You simply plant the entire pot in the new container.

Also back this year is the Lotus Express; talk about amazing growth! One customer referred to it as the greatest innovation in the water garden industry in the last thirty years. The one disappointment last year was that only one cultivar was available in the containers. This year, in addition to 'Mrs. Perry D. Slocum', we will also have 'Green Maiden' and are on track to offer a native yellow lutea that has pads with a blue cast to them; this lotus was discovered by Walter Pagels in Lake Okeechobee, 'Holy Fire' which is a beautiful double deep pink and 'Hakusetsukoushu' a double pure white from Japan.

Two of the three ‘new' lilies being offered this year are actually older ‘lost' cultivars:

Nymphaea 'Clint Bryant' is a tropical day bloomer created by Jack Wood. The full flower is a rich, true blue and the pads are green. It is listed as being a good selection for shady areas.
Nymphaea 'Enchantment' is a Martin Randig creation. Also a tropical day bloomer, this lily has a large star flower that is an unusual salmon pink, even the green pads are edged in salmon. These lilies are from some of the last stock with provenance to the original 'Enchantment'.
Nymphaea 'Autumn Crush' is a tropical day bloomer from our hybridizing efforts. A large, nearly double flower with outer petals of pink, and inner petals that are pink infused with yellow and then the stamen are a pure bright yellow. The pads are richly mottled maroon and green.
