New For 2009
|
Once again, pond season is just around the corner and we have
done our best to find and produce some new plants to offer. As
a result, you will find additions to our tropical lilies, marginal
plants and floating plants. |

N. 'Ambrosia' |
Nymphaea Ambrosia': is another tropical day bloomer created
by Charles Winch that we are proud to offer this year. The color
is similar to Green Smoke' but deeper and less prone to
fade as the bloom ages. As a bonus, the green pads are richly
mottled with burgundy. |
|
|
Nymphaea Anconas': a blue flowered, viviparous day bloomer
with round pads heavily colored with maroon. The new pads are
maroon with green splotches, but as they age, the green predominates
and the splotches become maroon.
|

N. 'Anconas' |

N. 'Lynn Ellen' |
Nymphaea Lynn Ellen': is a green padded, yellow day blooming
tropical with a difference. The broad outer yellow petals display
distinct blue overtones giving the blossom a two-tone and not
smoky' appearance. |
|
|
Nymphoides sp: This year snowflake will be available in two
forms. We will still have the floating mottled pads with white
flowers, but rooted plants suitable for potting will also be
offered.
Asian Water Grass: A member of the grass family that is truly
aquatic. It spreads across the water surface and continually
branches. The shoots are kept afloat by bladders that support
the stems. It does bloom, but the flowers are inconspicuous. |

Asian Water Grass
Hygroriza aristata |

Pink Mulhy Grass
Muhlenbergia capillaris
|
Pink Mulhy Grass: This is a wonderful wetland grass native
to much of the eastern US and hardy to zone 4. Starting in late
summer and continuing well into the fall, the seed heads on the
plumes give a distinctive pink hazy appearance.
Hibiscus coccineus Chatooga Gold': A yellow flowered form
of the familiar swamp Hibiscus that has been offered previously
in red and white.
Corkscrew Afro': A form of the hardy marginal plant, Juncus
inflexus is similar to the better known corkscrew and mini-corkscrew
rushes but the corkscrew foliage is a silver/blue.
Zebratails Cattail: An interesting variation in the cattails.
Rather than the variegation being vertical, the leaves of this
plant are ringed as they mature with distinct yellow bands.
|
|
On a final note, the Irises offered this year will be for the
most part bare root. As always, additional plants may become
ready, so please look for updates.
