About Us
In 1989 we started Luster Aquatic Nursery in Delray Beach, Florida,
growing plants mostly for aquariums and terrariums.
Personal water gardens in those early years were largely
unheard of. By the early 1990's water garden plants started becoming
a larger factor in the business and of much greater personal
satisfaction, so we began to expand our pond plant inventory
from just the few specimens of N. capensis. |

We tried to balance the space and time between those two aspects
of the nursery for a number of years, but more and
more, found ourselves favoring the pond plants, especially
once we started producing our own varieties of tropical day blooming
waterlilies, some of which have been awarded: |

The enjoyment of devoting more time and effort to water gardening
was tempered by the severe restraints caused by a lack of space.
So in the summer of 2004, we relocated to a larger site in Zolfo
Springs, Florida, and discontinued the aquarium plants to focus
our full energy on the pond plants. |

It is true that nothing is constant except change and change
arrived at our doorstep in 2006.
Former aquarium plant customers repeatedly requested that we
reconsider adding aquarium
plants to our stock list and as the dust had settled from the
nursery relocation, we once again
are able to offer a supply of cultivated aquatic plants for aquariums.
With the exception of some Nymphaea species, our waterlilies
are produced vegetatively to eliminate the growing concerns over
mislabeled look alike seedlings, and we are certified growers
in the Water Gardeners International 'Truly Named' program. Whenever
possible, our marginal plants are grown from seed or obtained
from reputable growers and tissue culture labs to reduce dependence
on wild collected plants and result in a superior product.
We are proud of the plants we produce and happy to provide
provenance should any questions arise. We look forward to being
able to provide new, exciting varieties of aquatic plants for
ponds and aquariums in the future as well. |
